Coaching
Book-length manuscripts can be difficult to organize. Interlocking themes are vital to their success. Similarly, chapbooks and portfolios must have central themes. Creating cohesive manuscripts requires consistent, strong writing with thought to each story, poem, essay that may accent or lead the reader to an open ending. Often an experienced, second reader can make the difference between a winning manuscript and a runner-up. The same can be said for college-entrance essays.
I offer coaching and mentoring to younger and older writers. Drawing from writers their very best efforts, I start where each writer is in his/her career and foster growth or encourage consistent highly effective writing. All the while I am coaxing and cheerleading, I am pushing the writer to value the thinking that is being done, and sometimes, it isn’t the thought expressed but the process of arriving at the thought expressed that surprises.
For writers interested in poetics, I offer tutorials and classes in poetics covering Modernism and contemporary (Post-Modernism / Post-Avant) theory and practice.
